“The ultimate measure of a leader is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”

-Martin Luther King, Jr

A felicitous day dawned bright on October 02, 2020 as GDGPS hosted its first online Investiture Ceremony for the ongoing academic session 2020-21.The occasion coincided with a day of great national importance- Gandhi Jayanti. The Head Boy and Head-Girl along with the two Community Outreach Heads paid their respects to the Father of our Nation, Gandhiji - a selfless leader, a tireless crusader who has led our country to freedom. The Community Outreach Head Councils revealed details of the school’s laudable and much-needed Community Outreach ‘Project Taleem’. As usual, the school has sought to espouse the cause of the underprivileged by ensuring that the poor students of Vidya School are not denied access to education in the COVID times.

Sublimity and spirituality resonated throughout the digital space as Ms. Anuradha Handa, the school Principal along with the Head-Mistresses and Coordinators lit the lamp of knowledge amidst chanting of soulful shlokas. The young uplifted voices of the school choir seemed surcharged with positivity as they sang ‘Hum Honge Kaamyab Ek Din’. The galaxy of deserving Student Council board then received badges of office and were administered the oath.

In her speech, Ms. Anuradha Handa defined the hallmarks of a true leader and reiterated that leaders emerge out of their responses to good and bad times. Her wise words resonated with optimism and positivity as she pointed out that an early exposure to such unprecedented times triggered by COVID-109 pandemic has allowed the Goenkan students to test their inner strength and discover their sense of purpose. The School Principal paid a heartfelt tribute to Mahatma Gandhi by remembering his four outstanding qualities that are the cornerstones of his legacy.  Ms.Handa also announced the launch of the online school newsletter appropriately titled ‘Charting New Realities’.

The speeches of the Head Boy, Joy Mehta and Head-Girl, Apoorva Sharma were beautifully laced with nostalgia, thanksgiving and purposefulness. Both thanked the school management, principal and teachers for the trust reposed in them and pledged to serve their school honestly and to the best of their abilities. Their determination to take the school to unchartered heights of glory in such unparalleled times was writ large on their faces as they spoke. The Student Council 2020-21can be truly described as a team of members with creativity, ingenious ideas and passion to work – a veritable gold mine.

The grand Investiture Ceremony drew to a close with the Vote of Thanks and National Anthem.
